Let there be light...

These are my two photos for the Let There Be Light competition (http://www.urbancottageindustries.com/). Artificial light (top): I created this image using a slow shutter release and tiny torches towards the end of a volunteering trip to a remote part of West Papua, New Guinea. I heard birds of paradise singing every day from the jungles behind my hut and I was inspired to create a phoenix arising from fire on the beach. The area is known for saltwater crocodiles so each day it was a little unnerving being in the water!

Natural light (bottom): This image was taken in Mexico, when I SCUBA dived the Temple of Doom cenote (Cenote Calavera). The cenote is a natural hole in the limestone jungle floor, with water beneath, so I needed to walk between the trees with all my dive gear to get to it! This moment is when I jumped right into the cenote. My camera with its floaty backpack was ahead of me and it was lucky to capture this image! As I descended deeper, looking back towards the sky the holes in the limestone look like a skull which was very spooky through the green tinted water!
